Nendoroid is a popular toyline created by Goodsmile. These are slightly poseable figures made in chibi style, and consist of representations of characters, usually from various anime shows. While the large majority of these characters are of anime characters, there are a few from other sources of media like Iron Man.
Nendoroids are made almost identically to figma, with a mostly PVC construction and ABS for their few joints. These figures are very detailed for their chibi sizes, and their heads show nice attention to detail like subtle shading in hair for certain figures. The paintwork on nendoroids are up to par with figma, another toyline made by Goodsmile that could be considered the non-chibi counterpart to Nendoroid. Nendoroids have been going on for a long time, and there are almost double the amount of Nendoroids than there are figma, including redone figures of a certain character like Artoria from Fate. This means that Nendoroids have a huge variety, and many figures to choose from should you want to collect them.
These figures strive for a stylised, cute, chibi figure of a character from a certain show. These figures can look really detailed and good for their small size, with expertly applied paint apps and good prints. These figures don't look creepy or lifeless like a few other figure lines do, instead they capture the characters they are replicating very well, all while turning these character into cute little chibi versions of themselves.
These figures however, despite being considered poseable figures, do not have a lot of joints in them in fact barely at all. The head moves and the legs are all universal ball joints, however due to the chibi style and Goodsmile's preferance of good presentation, they usually don't have elbow or knee joints with some exceptions. Usually that makes posing really difficult, but Nendoroids instead use swappable limbs to get into a number of select poses, and you can mix/match limbs while using the existing limbs with others for some custom poses if you want. Not only this, Nendoroids come with a plethora of other accessories too aside from the extra limbs. These include a much needed stand for these figures as they cannot stand on their own, swappable faces, accessories relating to the character, and even effect parts for certain figures, either on a flat plastic sheet or as an actual part.
Nendoroids also have a couple sublines out there. There is Nendoroid Co-de, which feature non-poseable statues the same size and aesthetic of typical nendoroids. These are divided by head, torso, waist, and legs, and can have their parts swapped between others for different customisations and poses. There's also Nendoroid Petite, which are Nendoroid figures that are smaller than typical Nendoroids that don't have any extra accessories. This means that they are limited to their small joints they have for all posing, that is if they have joints in the first place. These are also much cheaper to afford than typical Nendoroids, and easier to collect since they come in sets. There is another subline called Nendoroid Petite Friends, and these are usually sold bundled with other types of merchandise like manga or games.
Nendoroid More is another subline for Nendoroid, it consists of accessory sets meant to compliment other Nendoroids you've purchased. There is unposeable clothing that you can stick the head of any Nendoroid on, so you can have them wear that clothing in a fun pose. The line also features extra faces and accessories for customising your Nendoroids, and even some tank vehicles from Girls und Panzer. There is Nendoroid Playsets, which basically offer empty dioramas and settings for you to display your Nendoroids in, a fun idea. Finally there is Nendoroid Plus, which isn't even that related to Nendoroids at all. These basically sell merchandise like bags, badges, cups, and keychains with the Nendoroid characters on them. Not even a figure line, but it's still a subline.
All in all, for quality chibi figures, there is no better toyline than Goodsmile's Nendoroid. The massive variety and impressive display options with these figures are something that many toylines have not done to such an extent. Nendoroid More and Nendoroid Sets can compliment your Nendoroids and make fun custom scenarios, add onto that, the numerous poses you can get with changeable limbs and effect parts can make for some really good looking displays when all are combined. The sheer versatility and options you get for these chibi figures is astounding, but there is one negative, they're quite pricey for small chibi figures. However, despite this, I find that they are well worth the money, considering they have high quality standards, good paint detail, tones of playability, and are overall fantastic chibi figures to mess around with, you cannot get better chibi figures than Nendoroid.
