What is Frame Robo?

Frame Robo is a small toyline of model kits (?) made by Bandai. These are original robot toys created by the Bandai, which eventually made little comics of them, and even some animated PV shorts. These Frame Robo are one of the most unique model kits, in the way they only have one runner.

These little figures are made of PP plastic, and as I said, are model kits only molded on a single runner. This means they have no color separation, however not much is needed in the first place, and they also come with stickers for basic color separation. These figures are "assembled" by cutting the runner at certain areas, and folding the runner on itself to create the Frame Robo. It's a neat idea on Bandai's part, and definitely a unique experience for most of not all collectors.

When assembled, these figure are not the most impressive. Color separation is nonexistent, and stickers only provide so much, you'll need to paint extra details seen on the CGI box models. Articulation is also basic due to the method of construction. These frame robo also have links in their joints and connections for more stability and ease in molding. However those can sometimes limit articulation as well. Despite this however, they aren't the most stable nor the most articulate, the connections sometimes come undone due to being just folded plastic, and some joints aren't very strong either.

However, it should be known that these are in the end, kids toys, and thus quality and poseability is not the real main focus. Frame Robo can be messed around with, and they are really cheap so breaking them isn't a huge deal. Not only that, the simple construction is kid friendly, and doesn't really require tools either like most other model kits. These Frame Robo can also turn into weapons for each other to use, and a few can even transform into alternate modes of some sort, and 3 specific Frame Robo even combine together to make a combined one.

Frame Robo certainly isn't the most impressive of toylines, they're meant for kids and don't really aim nor achieve for much. Selection is quite sparse due to the lack of success with the line, so the only existing Frame Robo are the only ones that will exist. However I will say that for their cheap price, it's hard to be disappointed. Their main draw is in the way they're assembled, it's a fun, unique experience for any collector, differing from the standard model kit experience. If you're interested, and see one for cheap, feel free to pick one up for yourself. Even if they aren't the most amazing figures out there, they're fun, unique little dudes to have, and are definitely something unique to have.
